GRNMA Leadership Apologises to Health Minister, Pledges Stronger Collaboration

The leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has rendered an unqualified apology to the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, over recent public criticisms directed at him.

The delegation, which included former President Alice Darkoa Asare-Allotey, immediate past President Dr. Krobea Asante, current President Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, and General Secretary Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, met with the Minister in Accra to extend the apology and discuss ways to strengthen collaboration between the association and the government.

Hon. Akandoh graciously accepted the apology and urged the GRNMA to prioritize dialogue and constructive engagement in addressing concerns within the health sector. He reiterated his commitment to building a strong partnership with healthcare professionals to advance healthcare delivery nationwide.

Highlighting government’s achievements in the sector, the Minister cited the recruitment of 13,500 nurses onto the government payroll, the establishment of the Ghana Medical Training Fund (GMTF), the retooling of public health facilities, and the payment of arrears on nursing training allowances and National Health Insurance claims. He also noted that government had absorbed 50 percent of admission fees for nursing training institutions.

The Minister assured the association of government’s determination to fully implement the collective bargaining agreement to enhance conditions of service for nurses. He further pledged continued support for health sector reforms aimed at achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

During the engagement, GRNMA leaders presented pressing concerns affecting healthcare professionals, urging the government to act swiftly to improve service delivery across the country.
