The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has officially launched the 2025 Ghana Heritage Month, an initiative aimed at promoting domestic tourism and celebrating the country’s rich cultural heritage.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, the CEO of GTA, Maame Efua Houadjeto, encouraged Ghanaians to take advantage of the month-long celebration by exploring various tourist attractions across the country. She highlighted the unique cultural elements found in all 16 regions, including traditional music, dance, food, and customs, emphasizing their role in fostering national unity.

She also urged citizens to embrace traditional fashion throughout the month as a way to support the local textile industry.
Promoting Local Culture and Tourism
Heritage Month is designed to boost the patronage of Ghanaian festivals, arts, crafts, cuisine, and historical sites. To achieve this, GTA is calling on hospitality businesses—hotels, restaurants, pubs, and guest houses—to prominently feature local food and drinks on their menus.
“This celebration reminds us of the richness of our culture and the need to preserve our traditions. I encourage tourism businesses to highlight Ghanaian cuisine in their offerings to enhance the experience of both locals and visitors,” Mrs. Houadjeto said.

She also touched on the government’s Black Star Experience initiative, which aims to establish Ghana as the gateway to Africa for the diaspora. This program will offer curated cultural and creative arts experiences in collaboration with the private sector and diplomatic missions. Planned activities under the initiative include street carnivals, fashion and film festivals, theatrical performances, concert parties, and domestic tourism promotions.
Activities Lined Up for Heritage Month
The Deputy CEO of GTA, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, provided an overview of the key events planned for the celebration. These include: Ghana Culture Week, Gob3 Festival (a food festival celebrating Ghana’s popular beans and gari dish), Made in Ghana Rave at Kwaadaso, Akwaaba Festival at the National Theatre and Food Fair.

With Heritage Month and Ghana Music Month running simultaneously, Mr. Santana emphasized their role in promoting Ghanaian music and creative arts, strengthening national identity and cultural appreciation.
