Ghana Football: Save Ghana Football Movement Expresses Disappointment Over Lack of Progress

Accra, Ghana – Thursday, February 13, 2025

The conveners of the Save Ghana Football movement have expressed disappointment over the lack of direction in Ghana football, a year after stakeholders called for reform. Despite a successful demonstration last year, the movement notes that the situation has worsened, citing the Black Stars’ failure to win a single AFCON qualifier game and the suspension of the Ghana Premier League.

The movement is perturbed by the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) posture towards football development and the country’s lack of a guiding policy for the game’s growth. They attribute the deteriorated state of the Ghana Premier League, poor national team performances, and uneven resource allocation to the Black Stars to the need for a change in tactics and direction.

The movement has also criticized the GFA’s silence following the tragic death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, who was stabbed to death after a league match. While welcoming calls for reform from top clubs like Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, the movement urges the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, to lead the charge in saving Ghana football.

The movement calls for a holistic policy, developed in collaboration with stakeholders, to ensure a positive turnaround. They hope that in a year, there will be significant progress in revitalizing Ghana football.
