Ghana today bids a final farewell to the eight victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash in Sikaman-Brofroyedru, Adansi Akrofrom District, Ashanti Region.

The state funeral, taking place at the Black Star Square in Accra, is attended by President John Dramani Mahama, government officials, members of the security services, traditional leaders, and bereaved families.

An interdenominational service is followed by the burial of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, former parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah at the Military Cemetery in Tse Addo.

The two other victims, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, were already laid to rest on August 10 in accordance with Islamic rites.

The eight officials lost their lives when a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crashed during official duty, prompting renewed calls for urgent investment in the nation’s military aviation fleet.
Security remains tight at today’s ceremony, with portions of major roads in Accra closed to traffic to facilitate the funeral procession.
