The Galilea M/A Basic School has been shut down by Geo’s Anointing Limited, the contractor that built the six-unit classroom block, due to the government’s failure to pay for the work done. This measure was taken after officials from the company stormed the school premises, evicting students and teachers in the middle of an academic session.

The contractor had previously refrained from taking such action in October, following the intervention of Joseph Nyarni, Municipal Chief Executive of the Ga South Assembly, who requested a two-week period to address the payment issues. Despite securing the contract through the Ghana Education Trust Fund in 2017 and completing the project in 2018, the company only received partial payment, leaving an outstanding debt of GHC 400,000.

According to Christopher Newman, spokesperson for Geo’s Anointing Limited, all efforts to retrieve the money have been unsuccessful, and with the company’s assets seized by its bankers, shutting down the school was the only option left to demand payment.

Christopher Newman also issued a stern warning to the Ghana Education Service, cautioning against any attempts to forcibly reopen the facility. He emphasized that such action would lead to legal repercussions, given the unresolved debt owed to the contractor.
