Former Education Minister Calls for STEM and TVET Focus at ACA Conference

Across the world, science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) have become the backbone of national development, driving innovation, job creation, and industrial growth.

For Africa to catch up with global progress, experts say the continent must prioritize these areas to equip its young population with the skills needed to compete in the 21st century.

It was against this background that the former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Bosumtwe, serving as patron at the 5th African Curriculum Association Conference in Abuja, urged African countries to embrace STEM, TVET, and a growth mindset as pillars for transformation.

He noted that Africa’s curricula must empower learners with skills, creativity, and resilience rather than relying on rote memorization. “We cannot memorize our way out of poverty; we must engineer our way into prosperity,” he said.

The former minister added that with the right mindset, skill set, and leadership, the continent will rise. “The best days of our continent lie ahead, and together, we will build a future that inspires generations,” he assured.
