The Bekwai District Office of the Forestry Commission has been forcibly shut down by a group of masked individuals suspected to be operatives of National Security. The motive behind the action remains unclear.

According to confirmed reports, the group, numbering between 15 and 20, arrived at the Bekwai office in a pickup truck and a Land Cruiser around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025. Armed and wearing face coverings, they locked the office premises with their own padlocks and took the keys with them.

According to the Commission, the District Manager, who received intelligence about a possible operation targeting the Offinso, Bekwai, and Nkawie district offices, is currently making efforts to verify whether the individuals involved are indeed affiliated with the National Security Secretariat.

At this time, it is uncertain whether the incident is related to last week’s reported arrest of illegal miners in the area. Investigations are ongoing.
