The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in collaboration with the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), has arrested a key suspect in connection with an ongoing investigation into a 320-kilogram methamphetamine shipment linked to Australia.

According to NACOC, the drugs, estimated to have a street value of $296 million, were traced to a storage facility in Girraween, Australia, in April 2026. The arrest marks the first breakthrough in efforts to identify and dismantle the syndicate behind what the Commission described as a record-breaking drug haul.

In a statement issued on June 24, NACOC said investigators are working closely with international partners to track down other suspects believed to be part of a wider transnational criminal network involved in the movement and diversion of narcotics.

The Commission described the arrest as a significant step in a coordinated international operation aimed at disrupting sophisticated drug trafficking networks operating across multiple jurisdictions.

NACOC noted that intelligence gathered from the arrest is expected to assist authorities in identifying and apprehending additional members of the syndicate. The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with international partners to combat large-scale drug trafficking and safeguard the region from organised criminal activities.

The statement added that further arrests are expected as intelligence-led investigations continue.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the growing challenge of child hawking and streetism across the country.

Addressing Parliament during Question Time on Wednesday, June 24, the sector Minister, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, expressed concern about the increasing number of children living and working on the streets, stressing that the primary responsibility for removing them rests with local government authorities.

She cited Section 16(1) of the Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560), which mandates Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to safeguard the welfare and promote the rights of children within their jurisdictions, as well as coordinate child protection efforts with relevant agencies.

“The direct responsibility for removing children from street situations, including child hawking, lies primarily with the MMDAs in collaboration with other stakeholders,” the Minister stated.

Despite this decentralised responsibility, she noted that the Ministry continues to play a coordinating, policy, and advocacy role. It is currently working with MMDAs, the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, the Ghana Police Service, civil society organisations, and development partners to strengthen systems for identifying, rescuing, rehabilitating, and reintegrating vulnerable children.

She further identified poverty as a key driver of child hawking, noting that government is implementing several social protection interventions to reduce household vulnerability and discourage child labour. These include the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme, the School Feeding initiative, and complementary livelihood support schemes for low-income families.

The Ministry and its partners are also intensifying public education campaigns on the dangers of child labour and the importance of education, while reinforcing enforcement of child protection laws, including the Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560) and the Human Trafficking Act, 2005 (Act 694).

The Minister emphasised that addressing streetism requires a sustained multi-sectoral effort involving government institutions, families, traditional authorities, civil society, and development partners, with the ultimate goal of ensuring all children are protected, remain in school, and are given the opportunity to thrive in safe environments.

A prison officer has been remanded into custody after he was allegedly caught attempting to bring a substance suspected to be Indian hemp into the Kete-Krachi Local Prison.

The officer, identified as Chief Officer Michael Osei-Bonsu of the Ghana Prisons Service, was arrested during routine security screening at the prison gate before reporting for his night shift on June 19, 2026.

According to the Ghana Prisons Service, alert officers on duty intercepted the suspected narcotic substance during standard checks, preventing it from entering the facility.

Following the discovery, the officer was handed over to the police for further investigations and was later arraigned before the Kete-Krachi District Magistrate Court. The court subsequently remanded him into custody for two weeks, with the case adjourned to July 8, 2026.

The Ghana Prisons Service has since interdicted the officer pending the outcome of both the criminal case and internal disciplinary proceedings.

The Service reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline and security within correctional facilities, stressing that it has a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs, mobile phones, and all other forms of contraband.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has directed all market operators, fintech firms, and operators of online investment and trading platforms to complete their registration and licensing with the Commission by August 31, 2026.

The directive forms part of efforts to strengthen investor protection, improve regulatory oversight, and ensure the integrity of Ghana’s growing digital investment ecosystem.

In a notice issued on June 23, 2026, the SEC stated that all entities operating investor-facing investment technology platforms, online trading applications, and digital intermediary platforms involved in SEC-regulated activities must obtain the appropriate registration and licensing approval from the Commission.

According to the regulator, the move has become necessary due to the increasing number of unregistered online investment and trading platforms offering access to securities markets both in Ghana and abroad.

The SEC explained that the directive is aimed at protecting investors from fraudulent and unregulated schemes while promoting confidence in the securities market.

Under the new requirements, licensed market operators must obtain SEC approval for every investment technology platform used to conduct regulated activities. Fintech companies and individuals providing online investment and trading services are also required to secure the necessary licences before continuing operations.

The Commission further noted that digital platforms acting as intermediaries within the securities market value chain must be duly registered and licensed.

To comply with the directive, affected entities must complete a registration process that includes submitting an application form, demonstrating their platform to the SEC, receiving regulatory guidance, paying the required fees, and obtaining a registration or licensing certificate.

The SEC warned that any person or entity operating an unapproved, unlicensed, or unregistered online investment or trading platform must immediately cease such activities.

It also advised the investing public to verify the legitimacy of investment products and platforms through the Commission’s official communication channels before committing funds.

The long-standing agitations, frustration, and anxiety of residents in Aworano have finally been eased as the once-neglected road in the community receives a bitumen surface.

For years, residents of Aworano in the Techiman North District of the Bono East Region endured severe hardship due to the deplorable condition of the only road linking the community to nearby towns. The rough and uneven stretch made daily travel a distressing experience, posing serious risks to vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, the elderly, and the sick.

The situation worsened significantly during heavy rains, when a critical section of the road became submerged. This often left residents stranded for hours, disrupted economic activities, and heightened fears—especially among expectant mothers concerned about emergency access to healthcare. Many drivers and motorcyclists avoided the route entirely, further isolating the community.

Over the years, the road’s poor state became a recurring campaign issue for politicians, who frequently promised rehabilitation during election periods but failed to deliver afterward. However, the narrative has changed within a year and a half following the 2024 general elections.

Residents now report visible progress, including the construction of gutters, bridges, and the application of bitumen on sections of the road. The development has brought renewed hope and relief to the community.

According to residents, the fear of being stranded during rainfall is gradually becoming a thing of the past. Motorists say they can now operate throughout the day without worrying about sudden downpours, leading to improved economic activity and easier movement.

While expressing gratitude to the Member of Parliament and the NDC government, residents are hopeful that the road will be completed to a high standard and maintained for long-term use.

Although construction is still ongoing, the pace and visible progress of work have filled residents with joy. Many have commended the Member of Parliament for the area, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, for her role in facilitating the project.

The Ministry of Education has directed immediate action following the circulation of a viral video showing a student allegedly assaulting another student.

The incident, which has sparked public concern and debate over discipline in schools, has been formally brought to the attention of the Ministry. The footage has since been forwarded to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for further investigation and appropriate action. “I’ve since forwarded it to the Director General of GES for action,” he said.

Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, confirmed the development, stating that the Ministry is treating the matter with urgency given its implications for discipline and safety within the educational system.

He assured the public that the Ministry remains firmly committed to maintaining order in schools and will not condone any form of indiscipline or violent behaviour among students. “On behalf of the Honourable Minister for Education, I wish to assure the public that we will not tolerate acts of lawlessness and indiscipline in our educational system,” the Minister said.

Dr. Apaak emphasised that the government expects all educational institutions to uphold standards of discipline and responsible conduct, adding that swift action will be taken to ensure accountability.

According to him, the Ministry, through the GES, will ensure that all individuals found culpable in the incident face the necessary sanctions in line with established disciplinary procedures.

He further stressed that indiscipline in schools will not be tolerated, reiterating that the education sector must remain a safe and conducive environment for teaching and learning.

Ghanaian dancehall superstar Shatta Wale demonstrated his loyalty to his fan base on Monday by appearing at the Accra High Court in support of popular fan and social media personality Webkid, who is facing cyberbullying-related charges.

Webkid appeared before the court as part of ongoing legal proceedings stemming from allegations involving fellow Ghanaian music star Stonebwoy. The case has attracted significant attention within the entertainment industry and among fans of both artists, sparking widespread discussion across social media platforms.

Shatta Wale’s presence at the court did not go unnoticed, as supporters gathered around the premises to catch a glimpse of the award-winning musician. His appearance was widely interpreted as a gesture of solidarity towards Webkid during the bail hearing.

While details of the court proceedings remain subject to the legal process, the case highlights growing concerns about online conduct and the increasing scrutiny of social media activities in Ghana. Cyberbullying and digital harassment have become major issues in recent years, leading authorities to take a firmer stance on online behavior.

Neither Shatta Wale nor Stonebwoy publicly addressed the matter at the court, and legal representatives involved in the case have yet to provide detailed comments regarding the outcome of the hearing.

The development continues to generate reactions from entertainment stakeholders and fans, with many closely monitoring the legal proceedings and their potential implications for Ghana’s entertainment industry.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available from the court.

An evacuee repatriated from South Africa has accused a man, believed to be an NADMO officer, of taking GHS 300 from the GHS 500 the government provided them as transportation fare.

Speaking on Yese No Sen on Globe TV, Fredrick Osei, who is part of the third batch of Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa, said the government allocated GHS 5,000 as a financial package, along with an additional GHS 500 for transportation assistance to their various destinations. ” After our arrival, every one of us was given an envelope of 5,000, including children.”

The evacuation was prompted by anti-immigrant protests in South Africa, which escalated into violence against other African nationals. In response, the Ghanaian government initiated the evacuation of its citizens who felt unsafe and committed to providing comprehensive relief and reintegration support.

The government is covering flight expenses and offering evacuees “Welcome Home” financial grants, reintegration allowances, transportation to their hometowns, trauma counseling, and access to job placement services.

Environmental advocates are commending GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi for launching an ambitious initiative to reclaim degraded portions of the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve in the Ahafo Region.
The project, one of the largest forest restoration efforts in recent years, follows a landmark partnership between the Ghana Gold Board, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the Forestry Commission.

Backed by a GH¢36 million investment, the intervention will rehabilitate approximately 50 hectares of land damaged by illegal mining through land reshaping, ecosystem restoration, and the replanting of indigenous tree species.

From Devastation to Recovery
For years, illegal mining has scarred sections of the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve. Vegetation has been destroyed, water bodies polluted, and biodiversity threatened.
The damage has become a symbol of the environmental pressures facing Ghana’s natural resource sector. But conservation groups say the new project signals a turning point.

The Save The Forest Alliance, one of the groups welcoming the intervention, described it as “one of the most significant environmental restoration efforts undertaken in recent years” and “a clear demonstration of leadership committed to balancing economic development with environmental sustainability.”
“At a time when concerns about environmental degradation continue to dominate national discussions, initiatives such as the Tano Nimiri reclamation project offer tangible evidence that meaningful solutions are possible when leadership is backed by vision and decisive action,” a representative of the Alliance said.

A Shift in the Extractive Sector
The Alliance specifically praised Mr. Gyamfi for championing an approach that ensures Ghana’s mineral wealth contributes to both economic growth and environmental recovery.
According to the group, the GoldBod CEO has shown “remarkable foresight by placing ecological restoration at the centre of the institution’s broader development agenda.”
Industry watchers note that the project reflects a broader shift within Ghana’s extractive sector, with increasing focus on environmental responsibility, climate resilience, and sustainable development.

Beyond Trees: Social and Ecological Impact
The restoration effort is expected to deliver wide-ranging benefits: rehabilitation of damaged landscapes, improved water quality, enhanced biodiversity, and renewed opportunities for sustainable community livelihoods.
Environmental stakeholders believe the Tano Nimiri project could become a model for similar reclamation efforts in other areas heavily impacted by illegal mining.

For many observers, Mr. Gyamfi’s stewardship has positioned him among the leading public figures championing practical environmental solutions in Ghana today.
His commitment of substantial institutional resources to restoring degraded forest lands has earned praise from conservation groups and community leaders alike.
As reclamation works begin and new life returns to Tano Nimiri, advocates say the project offers something often missing from debates on environmental degradation: hope.
For the Save The Forest Alliance, that hope is being driven by leadership willing to match words with action.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the enforcement of the conviction of former MASLOC Chief Executive, Madam Sedina Tamakloe Attionu.

In a press statement issued by Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, Co-Chair of the party’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Policy Committee, the NPP accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of undermining the rule of law and equal accountability since assuming office on January 7, 2025.

The party alleged a pattern of selective justice, claiming that state security agencies are being used against political opponents while some corruption-related cases involving pro-government actors are discontinued or settled under favourable terms.

The NPP further raised concern over what it described as politically influenced prosecutions and the discontinuation of several high-profile corruption cases inherited from the previous administration.

Central to its concerns is the case of the former MASLOC Chief Executive, who was convicted on multiple counts including stealing, conspiracy, wilfully causing financial loss to the state, money laundering and procurement breaches.

She was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment after a trial conducted in absentia and was recently extradited from the United States to Ghana to serve her sentence.

The NPP said the conviction must remain in force, warning against any attempt to overturn or interfere with the judgment outside the formal appellate process.

It argued that undermining the sentence would set a dangerous precedent for anti-corruption enforcement and weaken public confidence in the justice system.

On legal education reform, the party criticised the implementation of the Legal Education Act, 2026 (Act 1170), particularly the introduction of a mandatory one-year “Pre-Bar Course.”

According to the NPP, the Act does not provide for a Pre-Bar stage and limits the legal training structure to the LLB programme, Law Practice Training and the National Bar Examination.

It described the Pre-Bar directive as unlawful, arguing that it was introduced through administrative action without proper statutory backing and in conflict with transitional provisions of the law.

The party also raised concerns over regulatory gaps, institutional authority and the capacity of the Ghana School of Law to manage the implementation process, warning that the current approach risks worsening the backlog of law graduates.

The NPP called for the suspension of the Pre-Bar regime and urged government to ensure that legal education reforms are implemented strictly within the framework of the law, including the constitution of the Council for Legal Education and Training (CLET) and the making of the necessary regulations.

The statement concluded that Ghana’s justice system must remain impartial and free from political interference, stressing that equal application of the law is essential to sustaining public trust in democratic institutions.
