The Electoral Commission of Ghana has issued an update on the collation of polling station results for the Ablekuma North Constituency, revealing that the process has been marred by violence and intimidation.
Following a High Court order on January 4, 2025, the Commission was directed to continue the collation of polling station results and declare the winners of the four outstanding parliamentary elections. However, the exercise was disrupted on January 8, 2025, when three out of 281 polling station results were outstanding.
In a shocking turn of events, the Commission’s staff were forced to flee the premises of the Old Head Office and the New Corporate Head Office after supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by the Greater Accra Regional Organizer, invaded the premises, destroying property and issuing threats.
The Commission has condemned the violence and intimidation, calling on the Police to identify, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrators. Video footage of the incident is available, showing the faces of the perpetrators.
The Electoral Commission has assured the public that it is working tirelessly to ensure that the people of Ablekuma North have their Member of Parliament, but emphasized the need for cooperation from the Police to provide adequate security.
