The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana has announced a nationwide strike in response to the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of Births and Deaths Registry.
The strike, scheduled to begin on Thursday, February 20, 2025, is a result of CLOGSAG’s opposition to the appointment of politically exposed individuals to key positions within the Civil Service and Local Government.
According to a press release issued by CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, the association’s National Executive Council decided to declare a strike after Botchway assumed office as Registrar on February 12, 2025.
“The National Executive Council (NEC) decided that should Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway assume office as Registrar of Births and Deaths Registry, CLOGSAG should declare a nationwide strike, he stated.
CLOGSAG is urging all its members to stay home from February 20, until further notice, in protest of the appointment, which they believe undermines the integrity of the Civil Service and Local Government.
