In a fiery, resolute address at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin charged party members to stand unwavering in holding the ruling administration accountable, declaring that no threat of arrest or political intimidation should deter them from defending Ghana’s democracy.
Addressing thousands of delegates and party faithful in Kumasi, Afenyo-Markin framed the NPP’s primary duty as a fearless opposition committed to protecting democratic institutions and demanding government performance. He urged party members to push the administration relentlessly to honor its promises to the Ghanaian electorate, irrespective of state pressure or legal threats targeting opposition voices.
“We must leave with one purpose: to win back the trust of the people, defend our democracy with all the vigor, hold the government accountable, and push it without fear of arrest or intimidation to deliver on the promises it made to the Ghanaian people,” Afenyo-Markin declared to loud applause from the stadium.
Crucial to this democratic crusade, Afenyo-Markin stressed, is an undivided party. Calling for total internal cohesion following the conference, he warned that internal strife would only undermine their capacity to serve as a strong, vigilant check on the government.
“This means we shall not leave Kumasi divided; we shall leave as one,” he asserted, emphasizing that unity is essential to re-earning the mandate of the Ghanaian populace.
Beyond political resistance and government oversight, the Minority Leader pledged that the NPP will present a robust, constructive path forward for the country. He assured the public that the party is preparing comprehensive, impactful policies aimed at alleviating socio-economic challenges and building an inclusive nation of equal opportunity for all citizens.
