The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has urged the public to report individuals who demand bribes for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) school placements or teacher recruitment to law enforcement agencies.
Speaking at a governance forum organised by the Ghana Statistical Service, Mr. Iddrisu described such acts as criminal and unacceptable, stressing that allegations of extortion within the education sector must be addressed through proper legal channels.
He said persons found soliciting money from parents, students or applicants for placements and recruitment must face decisive action from the police and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The Minister also called on citizens to demand accountability and value for money in public services, particularly in relation to the quality of infrastructure and projects delivered by contractors.
He emphasised the need for transparency, fairness and merit-based systems to address challenges in public sector recruitment and admissions.
