Former Health Minister Dr Bernard Okoe Boye has pushed back against claims of procurement irregularities surrounding the Weija Paediatric Hospital project, demanding that the Ministry of Health provide proof to support the allegations.
The controversy comes as concerns continue to grow over the delayed opening of the completed 120-bed hospital, which is expected to enhance specialised child healthcare delivery in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality and adjoining areas.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on Thursday, May 7, Dr. Okoe Boye criticised the Ministry’s explanation for the delay, arguing that its position appears inconsistent.
He questioned how authorities could cite procurement breaches as a major problem while simultaneously suggesting the facility could be commissioned within weeks.
According to the former minister, allegations of wrongdoing must be supported with clear documentary evidence rather than public accusations.
Dr. Okoe Boye further denied claims that procurement violations occurred during his time at the Health Ministry, maintaining that there was no misprocurement in the project’s execution.
