Two Arrested in Damongo with Cache of Firearms and Over 11,000 Rounds of Ammunition

Two suspects have been arrested by the Nkawanta Municipal Police Command for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition following an intelligence-led operation in Damongo, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed.

According to police, the suspects were intercepted on April 29, 2026, at the Brewaniase Police barrier while travelling in a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GW 9927-13.

A press release signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor stated that a search of the vehicle revealed one Adler pump-action gun, 7,000 AAA cartridges, 3,000 BB cartridges, and 1,124 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition. The items were concealed in plastic sacks and boxes under tarpaulins.

The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Richard Kpimbi and 20-year-old Latif Adam, are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. The retrieved items have been secured as exhibits for further action.

Police say the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety. The Service is also urging members of the public to provide credible information to support law enforcement operations.
