GoldBod Denies GH¢11m Sole-Sourcing Claim, Defends Laptop Procurement

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has dismissed allegations circulating on social media claiming it awarded an GH¢11 million office renovation contract through sole sourcing and purchased laptops at inflated prices.

In a statement, the Board clarified that the renovation of the former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Head Office at No.1 Thorpe Road in Accra followed an approved procurement process. According to GoldBod, approval was granted by the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) for the use of restricted tendering after the agency relocated from the old office of the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) due to space constraints following the recruitment of more than 300 additional staff.

The Board explained that three companies participated in the tender process, with Correca Ghana Limited eventually winning the contract. It therefore rejected claims that the project was awarded through sole sourcing.

GoldBod also refuted claims that it purchased 15 laptops at inflated prices. The agency stated that the laptops, supplied by GET4LESS Ghana Limited, were procured through a single-source method approved by the PPA due to urgency and limited supplier availability.

According to the Board, the laptops cost a total of GH¢322,500, representing GH¢21,500 per unit for Lenovo ThinkPad T14S devices, which it said aligns with prevailing market prices.

GoldBod emphasised that both contracts have been publicly published on its official website in line with transparency provisions under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025, urging the public to disregard what it described as false claims.
