An aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has told the Mahama government not to consider increasing elecrity tarriffs against in the first quarter of 2026.
He makes the point that the cost of living already keeps rising due to high tariffs and the people can no longer be burdened.
In a post on his Facebook page, he accused the Mahama government of robbing the people with the level of increase in Electricity.
“It’s a shame how this government, after bragging in opposition, has resorted to piling up economic pressure on the people.
“At the end of this 1st quarter, we expect the government to reduce the electricity tariffs to reflect the massively improved macroeconomic indicators and in line with PURC’s own principles and also consistent with the IMF Agreement,” he wrote.
He added that “the government should resist any temptation to increase electricity tariffs at the end of this quarter as the same will be resisted fiercely by the People.
“The cost of living keeps rising and the people can no longer be burdened.”
