Envoys must reflect Ghana’s core values on global stage — President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghana’s newly commissioned envoys to embody the nation’s core values dignity, discipline, integrity and humility as they represent the Republic on the global stage. The appeal came on Monday, February 9, 2026, at a commissioning ceremony held at the Jubilee House, the seat of the Presidency, where five diplomats took the oath of office.

President Mahama emphasised that Ghana’s diplomacy should go beyond ceremonial protocol to become a strategic vehicle for national development and global engagement. “As heads of mission, you are required to reflect this national reset agenda by moving from passive representation to purposeful engagement — from routine reporting to proactive problem solving, and from presence to impact,” he said.

He stressed that personal conduct remains central to effective diplomacy. “You are the living faces of Ghana. Conduct yourselves with dignity, discipline, and humility,” the President added, noting that Ghana’s missions abroad must uphold the highest ethical standards and reflect the character of the nation.

President Mahama further highlighted the importance of engaging the Ghanaian diaspora, describing it as a strategic asset for national development. “Our diaspora remains a vital national asset, contributing to our economy, projecting our culture, and supporting our national renewal,” he said.

The five envoys commissioned at the ceremony are:

Alhaji Said Saleh Sinare, Ambassador-designate to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Lt. Col. Al Hajj Umar Sanda Ahmed, Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Mali.

Mr. Kofi Attor, Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Cuba.

Mr. Emmanuel Opeku, Ambassador-in-Situ.

Mrs. Regina Appiah-Sam, High Commissioner-designate to the Republic of Malta.

Speaking on behalf of the newly commissioned envoys, Lt. Col. Al Hajj Umar Sanda Ahmed pledged their commitment to serving Ghana with integrity and patriotism. “We pledge to uphold the highest standards of service, integrity and patriotism in representing our nation abroad,” he said.

He noted that the experience and dedication of the new diplomatic team would be brought to bear in advancing Ghana’s interests, adding that the ambassadors were committed to representing the country with honour and professionalism.

President Mahama’s remarks reflect a broader shift in Ghana’s foreign policy approach, with diplomacy increasingly positioned as a strategic tool for economic engagement, partnership building and diaspora mobilisation, in line with the government’s national reset agenda.
