New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Ken Ohene Agyapong, has bemoaned Ghana’s continued importation of soya drinks despite cultivating large quantities of soybeans across all five northern regions.
According to him, this reflects a fundamental flaw in the country’s economic structure, where raw materials are produced locally but value is added abroad.
Speaking during an engagement with party delegates in the Northern Region, Mr. Agyapong pledged that under his leadership, Ghana would move from import dependency to full-scale local production. He emphasized the need to establish factories in the northern regions to process soybeans into finished products, create jobs for the youth, and strengthen the cedi through increased exports.
He stated, “We grow soybeans right here in all five northern regions of Ghana, yet we import soya drinks from abroad. That is the problem. Under my leadership, we will not only grow — we will process, produce, and export.”
Mr. Agyapong reiterated his commitment to promoting industrialization, adding that Ghana’s long-term economic stability depends on transforming its raw materials into finished goods locally.
