Bono East Regional Minister Vows Relentless Fight Against Galamsey on Black Volta

The Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, has reaffirmed his determination to intensify the fight against illegal mining activities in parts of the region, particularly along the Black Volta River in the Kintampo North Municipality.

Recent reports have revealed renewed illegal mining operations on the Black Volta, a key water source for thousands of residents. In response, a joint security operation involving military and police personnel, led by the Assembly, resulted in the arrest of four suspects believed to be engaged in the illegal activity.

Beyond the arrests, the Municipal Assembly has stepped up surveillance to prevent further pollution of the river, which serves both domestic and agricultural purposes.

Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday, Mr. Antwi reiterated his commitment to achieving a zero-tolerance policy for illegal mining in the Bono East Region.

The Minister assured that his office, in collaboration with local authorities and security agencies, would continue to monitor and clamp down on illegal mining operations to safeguard the environment and sustain livelihoods in the area.
