NPP Disowns Abronye, Wontumi Statements; Reaffirms Commitment to Internal Democracy

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has distanced itself from recent pronouncements made by its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, and Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.

According to the Party, the comments by the two regional executives do not reflect the principles and democratic practices of the NPP.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP stressed that no individual, irrespective of rank or position, has unilateral authority over the compilation of polling station albums. It explained that the process strictly follows established compliance procedures, and clear guidelines will be issued by the National Secretariat at the appropriate time.

“The Party wishes to assure stakeholders, particularly polling station executives across the country, that such pronouncements should be disregarded and treated with the contempt they deserve,” the statement added.

On the issue of the presidential primaries, the NPP dismissed claims by Mr. Antwi Boasiako that the decision to hold the congress on January 31, 2026, was intended to favor a particular aspirant. The Party emphasized that the National Council thoroughly debated the matter and unanimously resolved to fix the date in the overall interest of the Party.

“The decision to hold an early congress is intended solely to provide the Party with sufficient time and strategic advantage to reorganize, reposition, and recapture power in 2028,” the General Secretary noted.

The NPP reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency, fairness, and credibility in all its internal processes, insisting that no individual can manipulate decisions taken by the Party’s highest decision-making bodies.
