Ken Agyapong Calls for Creative Leadership to Unlock Ghana’s Economic Potential

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has taken a swipe at successive governments for failing to add value to Ghana’s raw materials, blaming poor policies and a lack of visionary leadership for the country’s underdevelopment.

Speaking at the National Emerging Leaders Economic Forum (NELEF) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on the theme “Is There Enough Youth Empowerment, the Gateway to Sustainable Economic Development?”, Ken Agyapong said Ghana continues to lose out because leaders “lack creative minds and business-oriented thinking.”

He criticized government policies for being too focused on exporting raw commodities rather than building industries to process them locally. According to him, resources like cassava, maize, and plantain could serve as the backbone of an industrial revolution if leaders had the foresight to transform them into finished products.

The NELEF forum brought together students, policymakers, and young professionals to explore solutions to Ghana’s economic challenges, with Agyapong’s comments sparking strong debate on leadership and policy direction.
