The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has commended O’Reilly Senior High School for a century of academic excellence and its steadfast contribution to Ghana’s educational development. He said the school’s centenary is not only a celebration of history but also a reminder of the values that must shape the future of education.
Speaking at the centenary celebration in Accra, Dr. Apaak described steadfastness as the foundation of O’Reilly’s success and the guiding principle for achieving academic excellence. He emphasized that the school’s resilience through colonial rule, independence, and the modern era reflects its unwavering commitment to knowledge and character development.
“O’Reilly Senior High School has remained steadfast in its mission to provide quality education. For one hundred years, this institution has never wavered in producing graduates who inspire change and contribute meaningfully to our national development. This is what steadfastness means—consistency in values and determination in purpose.”
Government’s Commitment to Education
Dr. Apaak assured that the government remains equally committed to ensuring education remains the cornerstone of national progress. He noted that beyond the Free Senior High School policy, deliberate efforts are being made to invest in infrastructure, teacher training, and digital literacy for students.
“Under the leadership of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, education is not just a service—it is the foundation of our nation’s future. We are renovating old schools, constructing new ones, and making sure every classroom reflects the standards of modern learning. Our goal is to sustain the value of excellence that institutions like O’Reilly represent.”
The Deputy Minister highlighted the challenges posed by rapid global changes such as artificial intelligence, automation, and climate change, stressing that Ghanaian students must be equipped to thrive in this environment. He said O’Reilly’s heritage of resilience positions it to adapt to these challenges successfully.
“The world is changing at a pace we have never witnessed before. Yet, the same spirit that has sustained O’Reilly for one hundred years will carry it through the next century. With resilience, adaptability, and steadfastness, I am confident this institution will continue producing globally competitive graduates who are still proudly Ghanaian.”
Assurance of Infrastructure for O’Reilly and Beyond
Responding to concerns and appeals raised by the headmaster during the ceremony, Dr. Apaak assured that the government has listened and will act. He revealed that the Education Ministry is determined to address ongoing infrastructure gaps in senior high schools across the country.
“I want to assure you that the Ministry of Education will complete all uncompleted structures in our Senior High Schools and also construct new ones where needed. I can guarantee you that O’Reilly Senior High School will not be left out. This school, which has given Ghana one hundred years of excellence, deserves nothing less.”
