Francis Addai-Nimoh Withdraws from NPP Presidential Primary, Citing Party Challenges

Following extensive consultations and careful reflection, Ing. Francis Addai-Nimoh has announced that he will not contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.

In a statement released on August 27, 2025, Addai-Nimoh cited several reasons for his decision, including what he described as inappropriate political timing, a top-down approach to internal party contests, and a perceived bias of party executives toward one candidate.

He also criticized the high financial demands placed on aspirants, highlighting the GHS 4.6 million fee as evidence of an “unhealthy monetization” of party politics, which he said undermines the party’s democratic culture by prioritizing money over competence and winnability.

Despite withdrawing, Addai-Nimoh wished all remaining aspirants well in their campaigns, adding: “Long live the NPP and long live our homeland, Ghana.
