At least 30 people have been killed after heavy rains triggered a landslide along a Hindu pilgrimage route in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, reports the state-run ANI news agency. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors at night as more rain is forecast for the Himalayan region.

The region, hit by 14.5 inches of rain on Tuesday, has seen communication nearly collapse, prompting officials, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, to work on restoring telecom services. Schools have also been ordered to close as rescue and relief operations continue.

This disaster follows a series of deadly downpours across the Himalayas last week, which killed 60 people and left 200 others missing.
