The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA) has issued a strong warning to political parties, leaders, supporters, and the general public to refrain from carrying or displaying weapons during the upcoming Akwatia Constituency by-election scheduled for August 24, 2025.
In a statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Adam A. A. Bonaa, NACSA cautioned against the possession or use of firearms, tasers, pepper spray, knives, machetes, or any object capable of causing harm, stressing that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.
The Commission noted that while Ghana has built a reputation as a beacon of peace and stability in the sub-region, politically motivated violence, often fueled by inflammatory rhetoric and unlawful possession of weapons, remains a threat to democratic progress.
Dr. Bonaa urged political actors to set a positive example by encouraging their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and lawfully, warning that violence or intimidation must never be used as a tool for political advantage.
NACSA further reiterated its commitment to working with the Ghana Police Service, the Electoral Commission, the National Security Council, civil society organizations, and other partners to ensure a peaceful and credible by-election.
The Commission appealed to all stakeholders to prioritize peace, uphold the rule of law, and protect Ghana’s democratic gains before, during, and after the polls.
