The Ghana Police Service has denied media reports alleging that officers raided the residence of the Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, in Techiman, resulting in the death of a suspect.
In a statement issued over the weekend, the Police described the claims as false and misleading, stating unequivocally that no raid was carried out at the said residence.
“We wish to categorically state that the claim is false. The Police has not undertaken any such raid,” the statement read.

According to the Police, the incident in question occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 1, 2025, at about 1:20 a.m., when officers from the Bono East Regional Command, acting on intelligence, responded swiftly to a robbery operation in progress in the Techiman municipality.
“Preliminary investigations disclosed that our officers, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a group of armed robbers. During the operation, one suspect sustained gunshot wounds while attempting to escape,” the statement continued.
The suspect, later identified as Seidu Bukari, was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead. Police investigations have since revealed that he was a known member of a notorious motorbike theft syndicate operating in Techiman and its environs, often transporting stolen items to Kumasi for resale.
“The deceased was already a wanted suspect linked to a similar robbery case currently under investigation,” the statement added.
The Police confirmed that a motorbike and other implements believed to have been used in the robbery were retrieved at the scene. A manhunt is ongoing to capture the remaining members of the gang who fled during the operation.
Although the property involved was later found to be the residence of Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the Bono East NPP Chairman, the Police stressed that his home was not the target of any law enforcement action.
“The operation was not directed at Mr. Bukari or his household. It is purely coincidental that the suspects were intercepted near his residence while fleeing from a criminal act,” the Police clarified.

In a bid to ensure transparency and accountability, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed a specialized team comprising officers from the CID Headquarters, the Police Professional Standards Bureau, and the Intelligence Directorate to conduct a full-scale investigation.
“We take these matters seriously. A thorough investigation is underway to ensure that the facts are clearly established, and any concerns addressed appropriately,” the statement concluded.
The Police urged the media to verify facts before publication and called on the public to refrain from spreading misinformation that could undermine public confidence in l
aw enforcement operations.
