Nigerian Delegation in Ghana Assured of Nationals’ Safety Amid Social Media Tensions

A Nigerian government delegation on a fact-finding mission to Ghana has expressed relief and satisfaction over the safety of Nigerian nationals living in the country.
The visit follows viral videos and social media reports alleging protests and calls for Nigerians to leave Ghana, raising concerns about the security of Nigerian citizens and their property.

During a meeting with Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the delegation was assured that Nigerians in Ghana are safe and that the government remains committed to protecting all residents regardless of nationality.

Mr. Ablakwa reaffirmed the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between Ghana and Nigeria, stressing the need to preserve the long-standing relationship between the two nations.
He emphasized Ghana’s unwavering commitment to peaceful coexistence and cooperation with Nigeria, assuring that both countries will continue to work together to strengthen mutual respect and regional unity.

Leading the Nigerian delegation, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, expressed gratitude to President Mahama, his government, and Ghanaians for the maturity and tolerance demonstrated, which has prevented an escalation.

Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu assured that the government of Nigeria will also continue to guarantee the safety of Ghanaians living in Nigeria.
