President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mohammed Abdul-Salam as the Acting CEO of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), effective January 15, 2025.
Abdul-Salam, formerly the Northern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), brings his extensive experience and leadership skills to the position.
This appointment follows the resignation of Sammi Awuku, who stepped down to focus on his parliamentary duties as the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North.
Awuku, appointed as Director-General of the NLA in August 2021 by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, expressed his commitment to serving his constituents effectively in his resignation letter.
The NLA has undergone significant reforms to enhance transparency and competition in the lottery industry. Notably, the authority licensed 15 Private Lotto Operators in September 2024 to foster fair competition and regulate the sector effectively.
President Mahama expressed confidence in Abdul-Salam’s ability to continue these reforms and lead the NLA to greater achievements, extending his best wishes to the new Acting CEO.
