West Ham winger Mohammed Kudus has been handed an additional two-game suspension following his red card incident against Tottenham last month. During the match, Kudus committed a foul on Micky van de Ven in the 82nd minute of a 4-1 defeat, sparking a heated confrontation between players. Van de Ven later alleged that Kudus “punched him in the face,” while Pape Matar Sarr was also reportedly shoved.
Initially, referee Andy Madley issued Kudus a yellow card, which was later upgraded to a red after a VAR review, resulting in a three-match ban for violent conduct. The Football Association has now imposed an additional two-game ban following further review and an additional charge.
Kudus, who has already missed West Ham’s games against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest due to his initial suspension, will now sit out matches against Newcastle on November 25 and Arsenal on November 30.
In his letter to the independent regulatory commission, Kudus expressed remorse, stating he was “deeply embarrassed” by the incident and acknowledged his behavior was out of character. He admitted to losing his temper and noted that although there was minimal contact with Van de Ven, he accepted the red card decision and took responsibility for pushing Sarr.
Kudus, a Ghanaian international, also shared the personal challenges leading up to the match, including fatigue from international travel and negative social media comments. He highlighted his commitment to being a role model through his community work both in Ghana and in the UK.
